Mel Leong Treatment Plant
The City and County of San Francisco owns and operates the Mel Leong Treatment Plant through the San Francisco International Airport. The facility includes an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (IWTP) and a Sanitary Wastewater Treatment Plant (SWTP). The IWTP treats industrial wastewater as well as first flush storm water runoff from airport facilities and the SWTP treats the sanitary sewage from the airport facilities.
This project upgrades current facilities to treat 1.6 MGD of industrial waste water and first flush storm water to a higher quality by installing state-of-the-art Dissolved Air Flotation and Trickling Filter treatment technologies. This will positively increase the water quality effluent released to the bay.
